Book One: Hooked by Emily Mcintire

hey ladies and gents,

So... I started Hooked about three days ago. If that doesn't tell you something about the book than I don't know what will.  Emily Mcintire does a really good job of doing this retelling of the Peter Pan v.s. Captain Hook story. In fact, she did such a good job every time she snuck in another detail, I was surprised. Sketchy meetings in the lagoon, assistant named Tina Belle, a croc, and a clock.

I think in a way I lived the original version, definitely not this version. A girl is not happy with her life, she leaves with a stranger that walks through her window, goes on an adventure, and comes home. After all that excitement she realizes that her life is worth living. As a kid I liked the idea of their being a fantasy world that we could escape too when life was hard. I was able to make that happen through books.

In the end I'm not too sure what to think in the realms of James and Windys relationship. I don't necessarily think it's Stockholms syndrome (I tend to avoid those like the plague).  I definitely think that a lot of the reason they got together is due to lasting trauma from their childhoods. Both lived questionable lives, hearing what James went through made me want to kill his uncle as well. However, I think the end is very fitting and makes the bad worth it.

This book definitely had some kink to it. I myself am not a huge fan of breath play. That being said I think Emily did very well with this. Especially because James and Peter (Windys dad) are enemies. I feel like it just added to some of the suspense and excite meant.

The book had a few mind-bending moments, some morally questionable moments and a major plot twist I did not see coming. All in all, it was a good start to the series, and I will defiantly be finishing them soon.

Let me know if you guys were expecting the plot twist in chapter 46.

I love hearing from you guys, let me know your thoughts on the book!

Sincerely,

Harper
